Journal... Entry 20- Day 2 HOG HUNTING AT BENT CREEK LODGE EDITOR'S NOTE: John Lanier and his partner, Leo Allen, of Jachin, Alabama, just outside Butler, Alabama, have hunted all their lives in this section of the state, growing up there on some of the most productive hunting lands available anywhere. Together they own and operate Bent Creek Lodge where you'll enjoy fine, southern cooking at its best and can stay in fine facilities. QUESTION: How many acres do you hunt at Bent Creek Lodge? ANSWER: Our lands encompass 34,000 acres. QUESTION: How long have hogs been in this area? ANSWER: Well, I've lived here all my life, except when I've been in school. So, I guess the hogs have been here as long as I can remember. QUESTION: When do you hunt hogs? ANSWER: We hunt hogs at Bent Creek Lodge in February and March. QUESTION: In what kinds of places will you be hunting hogs? ANSWER: We'll mostly hunt hardwoods and then some clearcuts. QUESTION: Where are the hogs coming from, where are they going and how do you know when they'll show up? ANSWER: Here in January, there's a lot of acorns in this region. The hogs either will be in clearcuts or in the acorns. QUESTION: Do you have to use feeders to draw the hogs out? ANSWER: Sometimes we do use feeders. QUESTION: If you hog hunt, will you hunt close to thick cover or in hardwood bottoms? ANSWER: More than likely you'll hunt both. QUESTION: What can hunters hunt hogs with at Bent Creek? ANSWER: They can hunt with bows and arrows, rifles, black-powder guns or whatever. QUESTION: How much does a hog hunt at Bent Creek Lodge cost? ANSWER: We charge $300 a day per hunter. QUESTION: What does that $300 hog hunt include? ANSWER: That $300 includes everything, because you don't need a license if you're hunting out of season. QUESTION: How many hunters will you take hog hunting at one time? ANSWER: The most hunters we'll take are eight but no fewer than four.
