Special Report #70 HOW TO FISH FOR COLDWEATHER BASS
When asked the best way to find and catch bass in the wintertime, Ken Cook of Meers, Oklahoma, a fisheries biologist and 1991 B.A.S.S. Masters Classic winner, answered, "The fish have on their overcoats too. Actually during the winter, the bass are resting. The colder the weather becomes, and the colder the water, the less active the bass are." Wintertime bassing is different from fishing at other times of the year since it's not a cast-the-bait-out, reel-it-in, get-a-bite, catch-a-fish, and continue angling-down-the bank type of fishing. However, there are bass to be caught in the cold months. Many times the biggest bass are taken during the late winter in the pre-spawn time of the year. Make the lake your laboratory and experiment.
