John's Journal... Entry 229, Day 2 BUCKS BY BOAT How to Find Waterways to Hunt Editor's Note: When you hunt with a boat, you can reach remote areas where other hunters don't hunt, leave little or no human odor as you go to your stand site and have a quick, easy and efficient way of getting any buck you take out of the woods without much dragging. If you decide to hunt using a boat or a canoe, you drastically can increase your odds for finding more bucks and for taking bigger bucks each season. You also can enter the woods silently. One of the ways to find waterways where you hunt is by
going to the World Wide Web and purchasing a waterproofed or laminated
custom-made map from www.mytopo.com that's personalized, printed and ships
within 24 hours. Just contact: P.O. Box 2075, Also
contact: Intrasearch, Inc., Maptech, High Performance Database Research Center, Maps
A La Carte, Inc., USGS Information Services, I've also really enjoyed this reference book for learning
how to map my hunt - "Mapping Trophy Bucks" by my good friend, Brad Herndon,
published by: Once you've got a map of the land you want to hunt and have pinpointed the waterways on that map, next look for put-in and take-out sites. Also determine how far away from other hunters you can get if you go by boat to your hunting destination. Attempt to decide what type of terrain the waterway goes through, how fast the water moves and its deepness. Learn all you can about the creeks, streams and/or small rivers that go through the property you have permission to hunt before you actually float the waterway. Tomorrow: PRE-SEASON SCOUTING
