FISHING TIPS FROM JAY YELAS

Jay Yelas' Best Bass Tips

EDITOR'S NOTE: Jay Yelas of Tyler, Texas, has fished on the B.A.S.S. Masters tournament circuit for many years, qualifying for the BASS Masters Classic often and winning the 2002 BASS Masters Classic.

QUESTION: Give our readers some bass-fishing tips that everyone doesn't know.
ANSWER: When I get my bullet weights, I don't like how bright and shiny the nickel is. I'll put all my new sinkers in a cup, pour Drano or Liquid Plumber over them and leave them overnight. In the morning, I'll wash the Liquid Plumber off of them, and then they are nice and dark.

QUESTION: Tell me one tip to make a weekend angler fish like a pro.
ANSWER: Find an area of the lake that has fish, and slowly work that area with a variety of baits until you figure out what the fish are doing. Have confidence that fish live in the region you've chosen. Go to that section of water in the morning, put your trolling motor down and fish. Eventually you'll figure out how to catch the fish that live in that area. Many pros do this quite often.
