John's
Journal... Entry32 - Day 5
EDITOR'S NOTE: Tad Brown, the product-development manager of M.A.D. Calls, a division of Outland Sports in Neosho, Missouri, enjoys hunting crows during the off-season. QUESTION: Tad, what are some secrets to crow hunting that a lot of people don't know? ANSWER: Just like when you hunt turkeys, be sure to remain still when crows come in because they are very sharp-eyed. They'll also flare from you. When you shoot a crow, don't run to get it. Stay seated. When you pile the crows up, they'll just look like more decoys.
ANSWER: If you shoot several in a flock and they fade off, change from a mouth-blown call to an electronic call. Once they fade off again, change to a distress call. Give them two or three different sounds. QUESTION: And you can call in the same flock? ANSWER: Yes, you even can change your setup a little bit by going to the other side of the field. By the time you pick up your crows and decoys and cross the field to make a new setup, 30 minutes or so has elapsed. Hit the crows with another sound, and you'll call in more crows.
