Journal... Entry32 - Day 3
EDITOR'S NOTE: Tad Brown, the product-development manager of M.A.D. Calls, a division of Outland Sports in Neosho, Missouri, enjoys hunting crows during the off-season. QUESTION: When you set up on crows, how long will you usually stay there calling and how far will you move before you set up again? ANSWER: I usually won't stay long if I don't get a response. because crows usually respond quickly. QUESTION: How do they respond? ANSWER: They'll answer and then start coming in -- raising Cain, cawing and talking back and forth. They're very annoying and noisy as they circle. If this doesn't happen immediately, I'll go to another region about 3/4-mile away before I try again. QUESTION: How much trouble do you have getting permission to hunt crows? ANSWER: Generally I don't have a problem getting permission to hunt crows. Nobody seems to like crows because they damage crops. When you get permission to hunt crows, be sure to properly dispose of the dead crows. No matter how much a landowner wants to get rid of his crows, 20 or 30 dead crows are an eyesore. QUESTION: What do you usually do with your crows? ANSWER: I like to give them to someone who likes to eat them. Sometimes I offer them to taxidermists. They make neat, little novelty mounts. Otherwise, I just dispose of them properly. For a copy of "10 More Secrets for Calling Crows," write Tad Brown, % Outland Sports, 4500 Doniphan Drive, Neosho, MO 64850, attention Kim Thurman.
