Journal... Entry 26 - Day 3 EDDIE SALTER'S BUCK NAMED WOODY Eddie Salter of Evergreen, Alabama, a longtime, avid deer hunter, and a member of Hunter's Specialties' Pro Staff as well as Realtree's Pro Staff, hunted with Michael Waddell this past season. QUESTION: Michael, tell me about this deer Eddie Salter took. ANSWER: This buck was nicknamed Woody by the landowners where he lived. They had seen this buck often. Woody was a wise old buck that Eddie had battled with the year prior to finally taking him. We were hunting open country, with transition areas similar to those of north Montana. Where Eddie hunted Woody, the wind was constantly blowing and changing, making hunting hard. Eddie only had minimal time hunting Woody from the tree he wanted to hunt him from. Because Eddie couldn't get a favorable wind to hunt from the stand where he thought he would see Woody, Eddie only hunted Woody for two days. Then one night the wind changed, and the next evening, the first deer Eddie saw was Woody. QUESTION: What did Woody score? ANSWER: He scored between 153 and 155 points. The buck was about 25 yards away from Eddie when Eddie killed him with his bow. TOMORROW: GREG MILLER AND DAN MASSIMILLO AND THEIR DEER |
