Fishing Out of SanRoc Cay - Orange Beach

On Tuesday John is headed to Orange Beach and SanRoc Cay to fish with Captain Sean Goodwin on the charter boat Jamie G.  Fishing with John this week will be Derek Nawrocki, the Vice President of BowMasters magazine, and Eddie Lee Rider, Editor of BowMaster and a wide variety of magazines published by Vulcan Publications. Also on the trip will be Tom McMillan, owner of McPherson/Pearson Archery, Jim Taylor, president of McPherson/Pearson Archery, and Roger Templeton, bow designer for McPherson/Pearson Archery.

With the red snapper season scheduled to close around the end of August in the Gulf of Mexico, John and the crew are going out after big red snapper, grouper, amberjack, king mackerel and cobia.  As John says, "From now until the end of August, you should be able to catch plenty of good eating fish out of the port of Orange Beach."

Alabama's artificial-reef program has resulted in thousands of public and private reefs being built that are loaded with snapper and other bottom feeders. With the length limit on snapper being moved up from 15 to 18 inches, this trip should produce plenty of 8- to 12-pound snapper and hopefully a 20-pound or plus snapper.

John plans to go overboard as the fish are coming up  and shoot water-level photography of the big fish they  catch.  If a shark is spotted, John will climb back in the  boat faster than he's gotten out of it.

If you're looking for a great fishing adventure this summer, plan to head to Orange Beach, Alabama for some great offshore fishing. Your contacts are Sean Goodwin (850)455-8539 and Judy Tatum, at SanRoc Cay toll-free (888)386-4853 or Alabama's Gulf Coast Convention and Visitors Bureau at 1-800-745-7263.
