WITH BUBBA DUNN

With his Mossy Oak chaps flapping, Bubba Dunn sticks to the backs of bulls on the Professional Bull Riders Association (PBRA) all across the U.S. I guess I'm just crazy. But I can't remember a time when I haven't wanted to ride a bull.

click to enlargeMy dad had two younger brothers who were bull riders. Dad would go to rodeos with them to help them and watch them ride. Although I was only about five or six years old at the time, I thought riding bulls was the neatest thing in the world. Riding became my dream and was all I ever really wanted to do. I was 8 or 9 years old when I rode my first bull. The bull wasn't quite full-grown, but it was a bull, and I rode it. A year or two passed before I got on another one. Then when I was 12 or 13, I started riding the big bulls. Although not bucking bulls, these bulls would high lope around the arena, giving me the thrill of a lifetime. I discovered that I loved riding bulls and got a real rush when those bulls jumped and kicked. I liked being all by myself on the back of a bull and enjoyed the high I got when bull riding -- something I couldn't explain to anyone. I don't think there's a bull out there that I can't ride, and I've ridden all the bulls on the tour.

click to enlargeI don't mean to sound cocky or arrogant. However, to be a good bull rider, you've got to believe in your own ability to ride any bull that you'll ever draw. If you don't believe that, you won't win many bull-riding competitions
