What Time Of Day You Should Hunt "My favorite time to hunt in the early bow season is mid-morning and mid-afternoon," Larry Norton of Pennington, Alabama, said. "I define mid-morning from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. and mid-afternoon from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. I've kept a log most of my life of every hunt I go on. From studying my log, I can see that I have taken the most bucks in the mid-morning and mid-afternoon on or around the times that I mentioned. These times only seem to be effective during the early bow season before the deer experience a lot of hunting pressure. |

"I believe that a deer eats about every 8 to 10 hours. When the weather is really hot, like it is during the summer and at the first of bow season, the deer are most likely going to feed later in the night when the temperatures are the coolest.
"I believe that right now the deer are feeding from 8 p.m. until about 2 a.m. And the deer should be getting hungry again during the middle of the morning or during the middle of the afternoon, 8 to 10 hours after they have fed the first time. This is the reason I believe these two times are the best times for a bowhunter to be in a deer stand over a food source. As the weather gets cooler, and as hunting pressure builds up, the deer will change their feeding pattern."
